Eat Well, Live Well Program

DoE Coordinators, Teachers & School Representatives Preview
Wednesday 24 June, from 10:30 am
Approx. 2 hours
ROVING LARDER COOKING SCHOOL, 2 Gunner Rd, Manly NSW

This special discovery session is designed for teachers, Duke of Ed coordinators and school representatives who would like to experience a fast-forwarded version of Roving Larder’s Eat Well, Live Well student skills program.

The session offers a practical insight into how students can develop confidence, independence, food literacy, resilience and real-life cooking skills through a hands-on Duke of Ed skills experience.

The morning will begin around the table with a generous morning tea and a short introduction to the program, including how the Eat Well, Live Well framework supports students through practical cooking, wellbeing, sustainability and everyday life skills.

Guests will then move into the kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience inspired by one of the student sessions: Stocks & Sauces: Eat Well, Live Well. This class focuses on how one strong base recipe can become the foundation for several nourishing meals, helping students understand flavour, resourcefulness, kitchen confidence and sustainable home cooking.

For this preview, participants will prepare an Asian-inspired Chicken and Corn Soup as the core recipe. The session will also demonstrate how leftovers can be transformed into a second meal, with a Ramen-Style Noodle Soup variation showing students how to reduce waste, stretch ingredients and cook with confidence beyond a single recipe.

During the hands-on session, participants will experience some of the same techniques students will cover in the program, including:

  • Knife safety and basic vegetable preparation

  • Safe handling of raw chicken

  • Building flavour using aromatics such as ginger, garlic, spring onion and herbs

  • Making and understanding a simple stock or broth base

  • Simmering, seasoning and balancing flavour

  • Thickening and finishing soup correctly

  • Understanding texture, garnish and presentation

  • Transforming leftovers into a second nourishing meal

  • Reducing food waste through smart planning and ingredient use

  • Kitchen hygiene, cleaning as you go, and practical food safety habits

The session will finish back at the table over a shared tasting and informal debrief, giving teachers and school representatives the opportunity to reflect on the experience, ask questions, and consider how the program could support students completing their Duke of Ed skills component.

This is not a student class — it is a professional preview for schools to better understand, experience and confidently recommend the program to their students.

About the student program
Eat Well, Live Well is designed to help students build practical cooking ability, independence, confidence and resilience through real-life food skills. Students do not simply follow recipes — they learn how to understand ingredients, make better food choices, reduce waste, cook for themselves and others, and develop habits they can carry into adult life.
